Basically, you have a baby, you get a crib. I’ve never seen it done any other way. I recently babysat overnight at a coworkers house with my daughter (they have animals that could not come to my house) and took her bassinet. I was shocked to discover that neither her 6 month old or nearly 3 year old had a crib/toddler bed. They were both sleeping in play yards and the older boy climbed in and out himself. The older boy’s was also showing severe wear, as one side was leaning in like it was going to collapse. I thought they weren’t to be used after a child could climb out. They looked rather uncomfortable and both boys woke up several times throughout the night. When my friend came home, I offered her a toddler bed I had been storing in my attic. Her response was, no thanks, then I’d have to buy a mattress for it. I was shocked at this answer, as they can be found so cheap. I believe I just saw a serta on sale at Walmart for like bucks. I just thought this was cruel. Why wouldn’t you at least want your child to have a comfortable place to sleep?

On top of that, the house was disgusting. They have 3 dogs and 2 cats and it just reeked. There was feces on the floor in areas that had not been cleaned up, even in the children’s room! I COULD NOT WAIT to get out of there, but I feel bad for those poor kids. I literally had to keep my shoes on the whole time in fear of what I might step in. I was appalled at this house.
I even had to ask my husband to come there straight after he got out of work, just to get my daughter out of that mess. I feel I should call, but at the same time, I kind of feel she would know it was me and it would make it awkward at work.
I agree with most of you… Especially Leah’s comment "A cold shoulder at work or hearing about how her child broke his neck on the 5 o’clock news while crawling out of a pack n play?"
